About

Who are we?

What we have in common

We are both committed Australia Mormons with a keen interest in politics and current events. We have both served 2-year missions for the Church, and are married with children.

What’s different

Moulmein is a social scientist, while Echo is an economist. Moulmein is a convert to the Church, while Echo was raised as a member.

What’s the deal with the blog title?

We thought that ‘Reed Smoot’s Mates’ sums up in three words what the blog is about – Australian Mormons interested in politics and public policy. Reed Smoot was a Mormon apostle and US senator, and the first really influential LDS politician.

Why this blog?

Through this blog, we hope to reach other Australian LDS (and anyone else who’s interested) who have similar interests.

While we are good friends and have similar interests, our views often do not coincide. Consequently, any posts by one author are not necessarily endorsed by the other author.

How can we contact you?

You can email us at reedsmootsmates@yahoo.com.au with any suggestions, comments or questions. Suggestions for topics are most welcome.

Rules

Whilst we encourage frank and fervent political discussion on this site, we do not tolerate any trolling or tearing down of other people’s beliefs or personal opinions. What we mean by trolling is no commenting to provoke anger or insult. Such posts will be deleted and then the user blocked. Please feel free to comment as you wish, but do follow these rules. Remember the Church’s teachings on idle words!

Good to see some LDS actually interested in politics!
